..."Heartbreaker" by Pat Benatar is still playing as Todd Pettingill stands behind the stage curtain, waiting for the victorious wrestler to make his way backstage.
TP: Folks, we've seen a lot of extraordinary talents make their way through TWOStars Academy; they start off on TSA TV and if they are any good then they get drafted up to the main TWOStars roster. One young man causing quite a stir is The Great Ken.
Todd peeks behind the curtain and sees that the man he wants to interview is but a couple of fleeting moments away.
TP: The Great Ken has just competed in only his fourth ever match, his second on TSA TV, and has just made Sandgoose tap out to his finishing move, the Modified Cloverleaf. The reason why people are so excited about this? Well, that move sound familiar to you? It sure does to Ken!
Todd peeks behind the curtain and ushers backstage a slightly sweaty, and a little tired, Great Ken. The tall young blonde wrestler is a shade bemused (didn't expect to be accosted backstage at the Academy~!) and doesn't seem overly pleased at having to answer questions.
TP: And here is the man himself!
Pettingill holds The Great Ken by the forearm and positions both him and the second generation superstar to face the camera. Poor ol' Ken hasn't even had time to catch breath!!
TP: And why is the Cloverleaf so familiar to this man; to the one they call The Great Ken? Why! Just take a look at this kid! Recognise that face? Yeah, that's right: The Great Ken is the son of Boyo!
Ken looks a little put out by Todd revealing this but conceals it well. He barely conceals a slight rolling of the eyes but that's about it. Todd Pettingill turns to the youngster.
TP: Great match for you, Great Ken!
TGK: Er, yeah. Thanks Todd.
TP: You being here really does cause shockwaves throughout this entire industry!
TGK: Mm.
TP: What with you being the son of an absolute legend and all!
TGK: (puffs out cheeks a bit), uh-huh. Yeah, I guess that's something to be excited about.
TP: So you're Boyo's son and you use the Cloverle-
TGK: Hang up a minute Todd, back up back up, woah there a minute. Is this all you want to talk about? My father? I mean, don't get me wrong, I love my father and I know more than most how much of a legend he is and everything, but I'm not him, man. I'm not. I'm me, The Great Ken. If you have any quesions for me, how about making them about me yeah?
TP: Yeah okay, I'm sorry about that Ken. It's just that you're going to have to get used to people talking about you in that way, man. I mean, you look like him, you wrestle like him, you use the same finishing submission. Comparisons are going to be made. You are going to be spoken of in the same manner as him.
The Great Ken smiles wistfully and looks to the floor, and then back at Todd.
TGK: Look, I appreciate that Todd but you too have to get used to something. Take a look at this evening; I have just made Sandgoose tap out to the Arizona Charlie-
TP: A Modified Cloverleaf-
TGK: Yes, a Modified Cloverleaf that I've called The Arizona Charlie. I've just made Sandgoose tap out to that mave in one of the first matches in my entire career and all you can talk about is my father!
TP: ...
TGK: I'm sorry Todd, but that's going to grate pretty soon, y'know? Let me tell you: yes, my father trained me, yes I couldn't wish for anyone better in the entire spectrum of wrestling history to train me, and yes I think he's an immense man in stature as a father and an athlete. But that's where it ends. We differ too!
TP: Yeah,
TGK: I'm taller, faster, younger and more aggressive. I'm slicker, smoother and more charming than my old man. More importantly, I'm a whole other animal to my father, Boyo.
TP: Fine, that's all well and good but-
TGK: No buts, Todd! I'm The Great Ken, I'm making my OWN way in this industry! Yes, by all means you can talk about my father and I'll happily talk about him all day. But, and get me when I say this; if I've just had a match and have made someone tap out, then you had better be talking about The Great Ken and not about Boyo.
TP: Ok. Cool.
TGK: I'm trying hard not to come across as a jerk here, Todd - because I'm not one. I'm really not. I'm a nice guy and I appreciate the headstart having Boyo as my father gave me in this great industry. But I'm doing this by myself. I don't want to be given an easy ride due to who my father is! I don't want fast-tracking to gold because who my father is! I don't want glory and adulation because of who my father is!
The Great Ken looks at the camera.
TGK: I want the world to remember the name, The Great Ken, because of me! The Great Ken.
The Great Ken ruffles Todd's hair and saunters off stage-right, no doubt to have a shower after his match. Todd Pettingill faces the camera once more.
TP: 18 years old, everybody. Wow! What a talent, and what stock to be borne! Coming up next on TSA TV, we have Dorian Sugar against Chris Crisis. You DON'T want to miss that one!
